I set up the GFX 100RF as follows.
- Manual exposure
- Manual focus
- Red peaking, low
- Arca Swiss Cube
- Foba camera stand
- 2-second self timer
- 5 images in each setting
- ISO 100
- F-stops from f/4 through f/11
- Shutter speeds adjusted to give equal exposure
Note that this regime eliminates focus curvature as a variable.
I developed the images as follows
- Lr, with default settings except for the ones below.
- White balanced to gray center area.
- Slight Exposure boost to balance center and corner images.
- Sharpening set to zero.
- Sharpest image at each setting selected.
- Cropped to 330×330 pixels.
- Exported at 700×1000 pixels. That’s about 200%.

Looking really good. F/4 and f/5.6 are the sharpest apertures. Use f/11 if you want to eliminate aliasing.
In the corner:

Fair amount of illumination falloff above. Still sharp.

More even illumination, about as sharp.

Diffraction costing us some sharpness.

More diffraction.
This is a fine lens. It can certainly keep up with the sensor, even if the sensor can’t keep up with it. I’m having a hard time figuring out what the complaints are about. Testing notes: a few images were wildly out of focus. I’m not sure what caused that.

GFX 100 RF, Corner, f/8
Diffraction **costin ** us some sharpness.
Proofreading costs too

Thank you.

is focus stacking on the docket or do the landscape junkies just get the bread crumbs ?
JimK says
I don’t think focus stacking will work any differently than on the other GFX 100x cameras. Why should it? What specifically do you want me to check?
les cordes says
verify the qualiy of the images: DOF and sharpness from front to back with this lens
if one sinks $5k into the camera specifically for landscape this is critical and as far as i can tell untested
Why not verify ?
ill be happy to come down to Carmel and shoot a few series …
this is important
thanx .. les
JimK says
Sharpness at distance is verified by the Siemens star tests. DOF, in the absence of strong Spherical Aberration, is determined by geometric optics, not lens design. This should be a fine landscape lens, considering the size.

thqnx doe gwthing bqck
in vitro vs in vivo is about all
i can say ..
JimK says
The ability for abstraction is an important human characteristic.
les says
jim: you have verified that the camera takes nice pictures and the lens is fine etc
you have not .. i believe .. verified that the integrated, multifactorial process of performing a high quality focus stack can be accomplished . that is an assumption
its probably a good assumption . but still
JimK says
I’ll test it, but I would be flabbergasted if it didn’t work like the other GFX cameras.

sorry for typos
always appreciate you time, effort and support, jim
