Nikon 58mm f/0.95 Noct on Z7: Siemens star, corner

LensRentals has loaned me a Nikon 58 mm f/0.95 Noct for testing. I tested using a Zeiss Siemens star target 25 feet away with the lens mounted on a Z7 body.

• Manual exposure
• EFCS
• ISO 64
• Delay set to 5 seconds
• Six shots per f-stop
• Target centered
• Stops: f/0.95, f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8
• Shutter speeds: 1/1250, 1/500, 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15 seconds
• Developed in Lr with default settings except for white balance and sharpening set to 0

A series of 250% magnification crops:

Quite a bit of illumination falloff in the corner wide open, but the lens is still resolving more detail than the sensor can accurately record.

Pretty impressive corner performance for f/1.4.

Now it’s really crisp.

A tad sharper at f/2.8.

Maybe a bit sharper at f/4.

About the same.

Diffraction takes its toll.

Heavily diffracted.
