LensRentals has loaned me a Hasselblad XCD 135mm f/2.8 lens for testing.
I tested the XCD 135/2.8’s out of focus (OOF) point spread functions (PSFs) by focusing the lens to minimum focus distance (MFD) and aiming it at a LED mini flashlight about 25 feet away.
With mechanical shutter at three high shutter speeds:
We have funky leaf shutter bokeh, but at least it doesn’t have the asymmetric weirdness of the XCD 55V and XCD 90V.
At 1/2000 second with the mechanical shutter with the LED places at various points in the frame:
I am not impressed.
Compare that with the GF 110/2 on the GFX 100 II at 1/1250 second with EFCS:
And with that same GFX camera and lens at 1/2000 second, mechanical shutter:
With electronic shutter, things look normal:
I will test the mechanical shutter on real world subjects to get a sense of how the mechanical shutter OOF PSFs predict the bokeh encountered in normal photography.
