Over the last year, you may have noticed the performance of this blog diminishing: pages taking longer to load, timeouts, and the navigation tools not loading properly. If you’re a diligent reader, at the end of December you saw a complete outage for about a day. Since then, performance has increased markedly. Pages load crisply, and timeout errors have ceased (if your experience is different, let me know).
Here’s what happened. This blog is hosted on a server provided by Superb. When I first started the blog, the server that handles it had marginally enough capacity to handle the number of blogs it was serving. Over time, traffic went up (because of more blogs and/or more popularity of some blogs), and there was more and more digital molasses. At the end of December, the server broke. Superb replaced it with a faster machine. Presto, all the old problems went away.
Here’s hoping it lasts.
