I was asked under what conditions the a7RIV uses 12-bit precision. Here’s my answer:
- uncompressed: 14-bit precision
- compressed continuous: 12- bit precision
- compressed otherwise: 13-bit precision
There’s a twist, though:
- LENR on: 12-bit precision, even uncompressed

I didn’t test that. It’s never made a difference in precision in earlier a7x cameras.

So only if long exposure NR is off, it should be 14 bit even with long exposure right? Weird habit NR option kicks in RAW shooting.
