Yesterday, I received a nice e-mail:
Congratulations! Your entry in the COLOR Single Image Contest 2011 has been selected for a Bronze Award, which means that one of your images will be published in the Special Issue #13 of COLOR magazine scheduled to arrive on newsstands early March. There are only 15 winners in this category (out of a total of 390 entries comprising 2407 images), so you can be confident that we felt your work stood out in a way that deserved this special attention. Once again, congratulations!

I was excited. An hour later, I got another:
Congratulations! Your entry in the COLOR Single Image Contest 2011 has been selected for a Merit Award, which means that one, or more, of your images will be published in the Special Issue #13 of COLOR magazine scheduled to arrive on newsstands early March. There were 121 winners in this category (out of a total of 390 entries comprising 2407 images), so you can be confident that we felt your work stood out in a way that deserved this special attention. Once again, congratulations!

I was momentarily confused. Either they had downgraded my entry, or I had two pictures in the magazine. Being an optimist, I’m going with the latter.
I was the referee for the CPA’s 2011 Juried Exhibition, and I know how difficult it is to handle all the possibilities of multiple accepted entries. We opted for customizing the emails to each possible category; that meant three different emails for the physical exhibition and five different ones for the web gallery. It was a pain, and it was fraught with the possibility for error, so I can understand the way that COLOR did it.
Anyway, I’m pleased. I can hardly wait to see which ones they picked.

Scott Batchelar – As a ferind of Fritz I got to meet Evie and sadly I never got the opportunity to work with her but I hope she does really well in Denver and that Fritz can find someone to take her place.
